Studio History

On July 30th of 2013, Blue Lapis Light lost use of its donated studio space and administrative offices, due to the sale of the land by the owner. In lieu of renting another studio space, which would have to be retrofitted at great expense to meet the needs of aerial dance, Blue Lapis Light searched for over a year for the ideal property to purchase.

After viewing over a hundred properties in the Austin area, the property at 10331 Old Manchaca Road emerged as a rare combination of accessibility, affordability, adaptability and serenity. With this property we are able to holistically meet the needs of our students and community by providing an inclusive space, tailored for the highest quality of aerial instruction and offering a platform for our performers and students to share their talents. Our new home is up and running, we are able to host more classes and student performances, as well as occasionally rent out the space to other local artists. All of which will increase Blue Lapis Light’s sustainability as a company.

BLL’s New Studio encompasses the build out of a custom metal warehouse building using environmentally sound methods to create one of the premiere aerial dance centers in the country. One particularly unique and exciting feature is the ceiling rigging that supports nine aerial silks hung in a circular formation, allowing for a highly collaborative learning environment.
