BLUE LAPIS LIGHT is a multi-media, site-specific dance company. Using aerial techniques along with classical, interpretive and modern dance movements, performances transcend athleticism to capture a poetry of beauty and a dream of the infinite.

The company takes its name from the East Indian concept of blue lapis light, a state of enlightened meditation in which consciousness merges with the universe.

A non-profit organization, Blue Lapis Light explores innovative forms of expression, inspiring and elucidating performers and audience members. Each June, a full-scale performance is given in Austin, Texas, with various smaller appearances made throughout the year.

Besides performances, workshops are offered in related areas, from training in the strength and alignment to master aerial arts, to instruction in breathing and weight release to promote health and relaxation. Classes are offered not only to dancers and gymnasts but also to teachers, public- and private- school students, senior citizens, troubled teens, prisoners and many other members of the community.

In the words of Sally Jacques:

'I constantly search for ways to inspire and reveal a universal understanding of what it means to be alive in these times.

'Replete with challenges, discoveries and revelations, creating a performance piece is for me the most profound form of prayer and a direct path to spiritual connection with others.

'The dances are borne out of an internal connection to beauty and stillness. In the silence, images unfold and eventually take shape through the collaborative process.

'The relationships found throughout nature are mirrored in the collaborative interactions of the dancers. The dancers’ interdependence fosters the courage to experiment: to risk the body, to defy gravity and soar in unpredictable and interesting ways. This is the edge.'
