ALICIA MARIE CARLIN discovered her love of dancing at the age of three during her first ballet class. She began her formal dance training in Okinawa, Japan, and because her family was always on the move she has had the privilege of studying many styles of dance in many different cities. She accredits most of her advancement in technique to the Payne Academy of Ballet in The Woodlands, Texas, where she studied with Jim and Bridget Payne. Alicia was also a senior company member of Woodlands Ballet Theatre with which she performed many leading roles in Ballets such as The Nutcracker, Etudes, Stars and Stripes, and more. Alicia earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance from Sam Houston State University in 2006 where she had the opportunity to perform a spectrum of styles with the SHSU Dance Company as well as the with the Kista Tucker Dance Company. After graduation she went on to perform as a principal dancer in the Houston Grand Opera's production of The Cunning Little Vixen and then trained during the summer at Ballet Austin. It was at an American College Dance Festival at the University of Wyoming that Alicia experienced her first Aerial dance class. Upon opening up this whole new world of movement, she could no longer keep her feet on the ground and her head out of the clouds and was compelled to audition for Blue Lapis Light in 2007. Alicia's debut performance with the company was Illumination(2007). She continued on to perform in other works such as Constellation (2008), Aerial Dance on the Hyatt Regency Hotel (2009), Impermanence(2009), and numerous other aerial silks pieces for various benefits and events like the Austin City Hall performance of Fabric of the Hour for First Night. In addition to performing, Alicia is a choreographer and teacher for the Youth Taking Flight program at McCallum High School. She is also teaching Beginner Cloth at the Blue Lapis Light studio and continues to dance, choreograph and collaborate on the many exciting upcoming performances that the company has in store. Alicia is honored to have the opportunity to work with such a unique and awe inspiring company. |
